BARN HUNT

Barn hunt is a relatively new dog sport where the dog, individually, has to go through a hay/straw tunnel, climb up on a bale with all four feet, and alert the handler when a tube containing a rat is found in the hay/straw.  While designed to highlight the skills of dogs bred to hunt rats in barns, many purebreed dogs, including German Shepherds and mixed-breed dogs enjoy the sport.

The Genesee Valley Kennel Club has an outdoor Barn Hunt venue and the GSD club has been invited to use the venue for practice sessions and seminars.

In August 2017, a Barn Hunt seminar was conducted in the morning and a Barn Hunt Rat-n-Go was conducted in the afternoon as a fund raiser for the club.

German Shepherds injoy this sport and do quite well earning BH titles.  Go to Roseland Barn Hunt Facebook page for the most up to date information on this sport in the Rochester area.  Also, go to the current calendar page to see upcoming trials and practice sessions.
