Junior Handling

The club has several children who are AKC junior handlers and take handling classes and compete at AKC shows.  Some of the children are

related to club members and others are placed on the registration of the dogs (non-family member requirement with the AKC) who

are owned by club members.

The club encourages children to become AKC junior handlers as these are the future of the dog sport and potentially will be future members

of the club.  Children between the age of 9 and 18 years of age are eligible for AKC junior handling.  There are 7 different class divisions

which allow children to compete with other junior handlers their same age and experience.  The Junior level is for children who are 9 years old but under 12 years old.  Intermediate Level is for children who are at least 12 years old but under 15 years old.  Senior levelis for children who are 15

years old but under 18 years old.  Within the three age divisions, there is novice level and an open level.  Novice level is for children who have

not had 3 wins against competition.  The open level is for children who have had at least 3 wins against competition.  In addition, there is a 7th class that can be offered for junior handlers who have met certain criteria, something like a master's class.
